Assam Gunotsav 2025: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will unveil the Gunotsav 2025 results on March 27, marking a milestone in the state's education reform.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to unveil the much-anticipated Gunotsav 2025 results on Thursday, March 27. The event, scheduled to take place at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati's Panjabari from 11:30 AM, marks a significant milestone in the state’s education reform efforts.

Massive Evaluation Drive In Assam Schools

Taking to social media platform X, Assam’s Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said this year’s Gunotsav saw an extensive evaluation process. A total of 17,585 external evaluators assessed the performance of 38,98,945 students across 44,077 schools — a remarkable feat reflecting the scale of the initiative.

In recognition of excellence, the Assam government will be awarding tablets to 4,320 students. Additionally, 11,594 schools that secured an A+ grade will each receive a cash incentive of ₹25,000.

What Is Gunotsav? Understanding Assam’s Flagship Education Initiative

Gunotsav is a flagship initiative launched by the Assam government to enhance the quality of school education. The evaluation follows a census-based model, assessing schools across four key areas:

  • Scholastic (learning outcomes) – 90% weightage
  • Co-scholastic and other activities – 5% weightage
  • Community participation and contributions – 5% weightage
  • Infrastructure availability and use (not included in grading)

The initiative covers students from Classes 1-9 in government, provincialised, tea garden management, tea garden model, Adarsha Vidyalayas, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, and residential schools. Evaluations are conducted using an OMR-based system, with schools receiving grades ranging from A+ to D.

Since its inception in 2017, Gunotsav has played a crucial role in raising awareness among parents, teachers, and communities about the importance of quality education. In the first edition, 48,468 schools participated, with 12.35% (6,037 schools) achieving an A+ grade, reported news website Hindustan Times.

The initiative not only helps identify individual learning gaps but also facilitates targeted remedial teaching for schools scoring in the C and D categories. Moreover, it has led to significant infrastructure improvements, including partition walls, electrification, and overall school enhancements.

To further foster academic excellence, the government has introduced a twinning system, where high-performing A+ and A-grade schools collaborate with B and C-grade institutions to share best practices and offer mentorship.
