SC Gives A Week To CBSE To Decide On Pending Class 10, 12 Board Exams As Parents Plea To Cancel It

The Supreme Court has asked CBSE to decide on the course action for pending board exams after parents submit a plea for cancellation of exams.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to respond to a plea by parents asking for the cancellation of pending CBSE board exam for class 10 and 12 scheduled from July 1 to July 15. According to a report by PTI, the plea submitted by parents of students who are appearing in class 12 examination has sought a direction to the CBSE to cancel the exams and declare the results on the basis of exams that have already been conducted and internal assessment. "The said petition would also demonstrate the extent of discriminatory and arbitrariness conduct of the respondent/CBSE in issuing the notification for holding of the remaining examination and that too in the month of July 2020 wherein as per the AIIMS data, the said COVID-19 pandemic would be at its peak," the plea said. According to the petitioners ensuring proper safety in 15000 centres would be 'an exercise in futility.' "Ensuring proper cleanliness and safety standards as prescribed by the concerned government in COVID-19 situation in those 15,000 exam centres spreading over length and breadth of the country including rural sectors would not only be risking health and life of children but also would be an exercise in futility and an eyewash," the plea said. Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari, and Sanjeev Khanna directed the CBSE to consider the situation and revert by next week. Last month, on May 18, CBSE had released new date sheet for the remaining Board exams of class 10 and 12. For both classes 10th and 12th, the exams were scheduled to begin from July 1 to July 15. The HRD Minister, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had also announced that the pending CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 Board Examinations will be conducted across 15,000 centers around the country in order to ensure safety during the exams. Several parents are opposing the exams as the cases of coronavirus continues to increase in the country. Some had even started a twitter campaign to cancel both ICSE and CBSE exams and 'Cancel ICSE Exams' had started trending on Twitter last week.
