Rajasthan Teacher Suspended For Awarding Random Marks In Class 10 Exam Without Checking Answer Sheet

The Rajasthan education department has suspended teacher Nimisha Rani for assigning arbitrary marks to Class 10 students without reviewing their science exam answer sheets.

Jaipur: The Rajasthan education department has suspended a teacher for awarding random marks to students without reviewing their answer sheets for the Class 10 Board exam, as reported by news agency PTI. Senior teacher Nimisha Rani was immediately suspended for assigning arbitrary scores without assessing the answer sheets for the Class 10 science exam of the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education, an official statement confirmed.

Rani, stationed at Mahatma Gandhi Government School in Bhagwan Ganj, Ajmer district, failed to evaluate the answer sheets and only recorded total scores, which the education department described as serious negligence.

Acting on the instructions of Education Minister Madan Dilawar, a departmental inquiry has been launched, and a suspension order was issued against her, the statement added.

Rajasthan Govt Recalls Textbook On Godhra Carnage For 'Quality Check'

The Rajasthan government has recalled four textbooks, including one on the 2002 Godhra incident and its aftermath, a month after their distribution in state schools. On October 21, the Rajasthan School Education Council directed district education officers to collect all copies of Jivan ki Bahar, Chitti - Ek Kutta Aur Uska Jungle Farm (for classes 9 to 12), and Adrishya Log - Umeed aur Sahas ki Kahaniya, along with an additional copy of Jivan ki Bahar (for classes 11 and 12).

School principals are instructed to return the books to block-level offices. The recall notice cited "technical deficiencies" and called for a "GSM check" to examine the quality of paper and printing. All four books were provided under a library grant for the 2023-24 academic session and published by a private organization.

A chapter in Adrishya Log - Umeed aur Sahas ki Kahaniya, titled Nau Lambe Saal (Nine Long Years), reportedly mentions that while the Gujarat government initially claimed the Godhra fire was a terrorist conspiracy, this was unproven by higher courts. It highlights the case of three suspects acquitted after nine years in prison and describes undercover police actions in a slum post-incident and subsequent violence against Muslims in Gujarat.

Rajasthan Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra criticized the government’s book distribution, alleging misuse of Rs 30 crore in public funds for divisive content and calling on Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma to investigate.

Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully questioned the stated reason of paper quality checks, suggesting alternative motives and asking for transparency. Jully noted that Adrishya Log - Umeed aur Sahas ki Kahaniya by human rights activist Harsh Mander reflects on communal violence's impact on families and urged clarification on the recall.
