Rajasthan: All Schools And Anganwadis In Jalore District To Be Closed Today Due To Heavy Rainfall

The move from the district administration comes following heavy rainfall alert in the district by the meteorological department.

All government and private schools as well as anganwadis in Rajasthan’s Jalore district have been closed today, September 18, due to the ongoing rainfall, followed by the ‘heavy rainfall’ alert in the district by the meteorological department. The Jalore District Education Officer released an official notice on Sunday, September 17, announcing ‘holiday’ in all schools in the district on September 18, 2023.

“Considering the heavy rainfall alert in the district by the meteorological department and the ongoing incessant rainfall in the district, a public holiday has been declared for all government and private schools as well as anganwadis of the district on September 18, 2023,” reads the notice from the district education officer’s office.

Apparently, this has been the state for state for schools running into closure and holidays, in the wake of incessant rainfall in different parts of the country. What started with the northern states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh, schools were shut in central districts of UP including Lucknow, in the last such incident on September 11 and 12, last week.

In the fresh spell of rains, central and western parts of the country including states like Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa have been lashed by incessant rainfall in the past few days. Heavy rainfalls in various districts of Madhya Pradesh including Khargone, Barwani, Dhar, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Alirajpur, and Indore over the past two days forced relocation of over 8,700 people amid flood-like situations, as on September 17.

Similarly, several districts in Gujarat too have been battered by heavy rainfalls in the past two days. Ahmedabad has received a rainfall of 76 mm in just 12 hours. Moreover, the increased water levels in the Narmada river has led to flooding in low-lying areas of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. The IMD has predicted light to moderate rains in parts of Gujarat, including Junagarh and Porbandar today.
