UP Medical Colleges To Be Equipped With Organ Donation Facility By The End Of 2024: Mansukh Mandaviya

The Union Health Minister said that medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh will have a facility to retrieve or transplant organs donated by donors.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has said that medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh will have an organ donation facility by the end of 2024. Attending an organ donation programme on the eve of the Prime Minister’s birthday, the union minister said that Uttar Pradesh medical colleges will have a facility to retrieve or transplant organs donated by any donor. 

"A financial aid would also be provided to improve this facility in the medical colleges," he told the media here. Mandaviya earlier led around 8,000 people in taking a pledge for organ donation at the GIC ground here. "In the organ donation programme, there were more than 8,000 people who pledged to donate their organs and also registered themselves in the National Organ Donation Registry," Mansukh Mandaviya was reported as saying by news agency PTI.

The Union Health Minister who also inaugurated a super specialty wing at the Sarojini Naidu Medical College (SNMC), said that the people from Agra and other nearby areas would benefit from the new facility. "It will help them to get treatment in Agra," he added. 

Underlining  the benefits of the organ donation programme, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare S P Singh Baghel, said that organ donation is essential to save lives of people. He also stressed upon spreading awareness around organ donation. While the organ donation programme witnessed significant participation from people of Agra and nearby regions, a local resident also posted the certificate of the programme on social media to spread awareness around organ donation. 

At the event, the Health Ministry also unveiled the ‘Ayushman Bhava’ campaign and announced the commencement of the campaign from September 17, the Prime Minister’s birthday. The new campaign which will run till October 2, aims at delivering health schemes to every single beneficiary, even those in the last mile.
