PM Narendra Modi To Speak About NEP 2020 During Education Ministry's Conclave On Friday

PM Narendra Modi will talk about NEP 2020 for the first time in the inaugural address of Education Ministry's Conclave On Friday.

New Delhi: In his inaugural address on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will for the first time speak about the New Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). ALSO READ | Delhi HC Says Students Not Prepared For DU Open Book Exams; Defers Hearing To August 17 An official statement confirmed that PM Modi will be speaking at the ''Conclave on Transformational Reforms in Higher Education under National Education Policy'' via video conferencing on Friday. It is organized by the Ministry of Education previously called the Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grants Commission. The conclave will bring sessions that talk about important aspects of education that have been brought or modified under the new National Education Policy (NEP). "Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, Union Minister of State Sanjay Dhotre would also be participating in the event. A number of dignitaries, including the chairman and members, committee for the draft NEP as well as eminent academicians and scientists will speak on different aspects of the National Education Policy," the statement read. "Vice-Chancellors of universities, directors of institutions and principals of colleges and other stakeholders will participate in the programme," it added. It has taken 34 years to bring a new national educational policy after the one framed in 1986. Among many decisions, the policy has proposed setting up a ''single overarching umbrella body for the entire higher education''. Because of which, the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) will be dissolved and The Higher Education Commission of India (HECI) will take over The HECI will have independent bodies, that will each serve separate functions of accreditation, funding, and academic standard setting.
