Odisha: Teacher Issued Show Cause Notice For Attending School In Drunken State

The Dharmasala BEO issued a show cause notice to a primary school headmaster for attending school inebriated, following reports from guardians and a viral video of the incident.

Jajpur (Odisha): The Block Education Officer (BEO) of Dharmasala, located in Odisha’s Jajpur district, issued a show cause notice on Thursday to the headmaster of a government primary school for allegedly attending school in a drunken state, as reported by news agency PTI.

The headmaster, employed at a primary school in Anjira panchayat under Dharmasala block, faced action after the school's managing committee and concerned guardians reported the incident to the Dharmasala BEO, demanding strict action.

They also called for the immediate transfer of the headmaster, citing that he frequently comes to school intoxicated. A video of the headmaster in a drunken state, lying on the road near the school, went viral on social media.

Dharmasala BEO Abhijit Barik confirmed that a show cause notice has been issued and the teacher has been asked to respond within three days. Appropriate action will be taken based on the response.

This isn’t the first time such an incident has occurred. Last year, three similar cases of teachers attending school under the influence were reported in Jajpur district.

37-Year-Old Man Arrested for Molesting School, College Girls

A 37-year-old man who allegedly molested multiple school and college girls was arrested in Itanagar, police said on Thursday.

The accused, a native of Nuna Camp village in Dirang in West Kameng district, was apprehended after a complaint was lodged at the Itanagar women police station, Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh said.

The arrest was made after a 14-year-old girl was molested on September 7. The accused offered her a lift on his scooter while she was going to school.

"The accused touched her inappropriately during the ride. The girl had to jump off the moving vehicle to escape," the SP said.

After the complaint was registered, police did an investigation and uncovered a pattern of similar incidents perpetrated by him, targeting school and college girls in Itanagar, Singh said.
