NEET-UG 2024: Centre Files Affidavit In Supreme Court, Denies Any 'Mass Malpractice' In Exam

The government citing an IIT Madras study said there was neither any indication of mass malpractice nor a localized set of candidates being benefitted leading to abnormal scores.

NEET UG 2024: The centre on Wednesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court denying any mass malpractice in NEET-UG exam.

The centre citing the data analytics done by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras said there was neither any indication of mass malpractice nor a localized set of candidates being benefitted leading to abnormal scores.
 
The government further said that the counselling will be conducted in four rounds starting from the third week of July.
 
"For any candidate, if it is found that he/she has been the beneficiary of any malpractice, the candidature of such person would be cancelled at any stage during the counselling process or even afterwards," the affidavit said.

The apex court on Monday had asked the NTA to apprise it about the measures taken by the examination body to identify the candidates who gained benefit from the paper leak. The Supreme Court had asked NTA to file a status report and affidavit comprising of all the details on July 10 by 5 pm.

The apex court had also asked about the first incident of paper leak that occured on May 5 and the manner in which the question papers were leaked and disseminated. Besides this the apex court also asked about the time duration between the occurrence of the leak and the exam on May 5.

The Supreme Court had on Monday said that a re-test may be ordered if the entirety of the process is affected and had sought details from the National Testing Agency and the CBI including the timing and manner of the paper leak, besides the numbers of wrongdoers, to know the extent of its effect.

The SC bench is hearing over 30 pleas related to the NEET-UG 2024 including those alleging irregularities and malpractices in the May 5 test and seeking a direction to conduct it afresh.
