Mumbai: Schools located in non-containment zone areas will reopen for Class 9 and 10 from July 1. Junior colleges can also resume classes for students in the 12th standard.

Classes for standard 6 to 8 will begin from August.

A circular has been issued by the state government. It read "schools not located in a red zone can commence classes of Standard 9, 10 and 12 from July 1" while "classes of 6th to 8th standards would begin from August".

"Though in some areas schools could not be opened, the process of teaching cannot be stopped. The use of digital technology to reach out with students should be adopted," it stated.

Class 1 and 2 students have been exempted from online classes. For the rest, certain hours have been specified by the government.

"We are trying to use All India Radio (AIR) network as well to reach out to students with the curriculum," Gaikwad said. Some of the teaching can be broadcast, she added.

Meanwhile, not all teachers and principals are on board with resuming senior classes from July as many want all schools to reopen from August.
