JNU Warns Students Who Allegedly Raised Motivated Slogans

The Jawaharlal Nehru University has released a notification regarding the heavy sloganeering during the presidential debate of JNUSU elections.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University, JNU, witnessed heavy sloganeering during the presidential debate of JNUSU elections held on March 21, 2024. Following the event, the administration said that this behavior is not unacceptable. The Jawaharlal Nehru University has released a notification in this regard which stated, "It has come to the notice that some students have allegedly raised certain motivated slogans, during the event of presidential debate of JNUSU election held on 21" March 2024, which are totally unacceptable as it may hurt feelings and sentiments of various sections of the JNU community".

"It is pertinent to mention that the Model Code of Conduct is in place and that the entire electoral process is being monitored by the Hon'ble High Court-appointed Special Observer. The administration has taken cognizance of the matter and the security branch has been instructed by the Vice Chancellor to immediately look into the matter and submit its report," the official notice added.

The Vice Chancellor has instructed the security branch to investigate the matter and provide a report. The administration has appealed to all members of the JNU university to refrain from disturbing the peaceful environment on campus and facilitate the smooth conduct of the JNUSU elections.

Notably, the JNU campus on Wednesday night witnessed heavy cheering by students ahead of the presidential debate of students contesting the upcoming students' union election. The event, delayed from its scheduled time of 9 pm, saw participation of students with slogans like 'Vande Matram', 'Jai Bhim' and 'Azadi'. JNUSU presidential debate brings together eight candidates for the post of the JNUSU (Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union) president in the polls slated on March 22, 2024.
