IIT Delhi Launches New MA Programme In Society, Culture, And Thought: Applications Begin March 20

The shortlisting of candidates for the MA in Society, Culture, and Thought (MA - CST) programme shall be done based on a written examination/ GATE scores, followed by an interview.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi) has launched a new master’s programme” MA in Society, Culture and Thought (MA - CST). Besides announcing the new programme, the institute has also notified the application and admission process for the programme. As per the official announcement, IIT Delhi will start accepting applications for the MA in Society, Culture, and Thought programme from March 20, 2024. Interested and eligible candidates will be able to submit their application for the programme online on the official website - iitd.ac.in. 

IIT Delhi MA in Society, Culture and Thought: Programme Details

The IIT Delhi’s new MA Programme in Society, Culture, and Thought is a two-year full-time programme which will be taught at the IIT Delhi Campus in New Delhi. The interdisciplinary Master’s programme shall consist of four semesters spanning across four semesters, and candidates enrolled in the programme will get to study and examine thoughts and disciplines for various domains of social sciences. The programme will be offered by the Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) department of IIT Delhi. 

“The Institute has introduced a new programme, MA in Culture, Society, Thought (Two-Year, Full-time), at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences from July 2024. This program is envisaged as a taught, interdisciplinary master’s programme. Students will be trained to critically examine aspects of contemporaneity through the disciplines of Sociology, Literature, and Philosophy as core disciplines focussing on the theme of culture, society, and thought,” reads IIT Delhi’s HSS department’s official website.

IIT Delhi MA in Society, Culture and Thought: Selection Procedure

The shortlisting of candidates for admission into IIT Delhi’s new MA in Society, Culture and Thought programme shall be done based on a written examination that will be conducted by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences or GATE scores. Shortlisted candidates will be further called for an interview round where the analytical abilities, basic numerical and logical reasoning skills, and reading and comprehension skills of shortlisted candidates shall be assessed. 

IIT Delhi MA in Society, Culture and Thought: Eligibility Criteria

  • Graduates with a BA degree in any discipline with an aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent CGPA (50% or equivalent CGPA for SC/ST/PH category applicants).
  • Graduates of all other streams (B.Tech., B.Sc., B.Com., B.Des., B.Ed.) with First Division (55% marks or equivalent CGPA for SC/ST/PH category applicants).
  • Graduates of the 3-year and 4-year UG programmes are both eligible for the programme.
  • B.Tech. Advanced candidates of IIT Delhi can also apply for the progamme.
  • Candidates in the final year of their study programmes who expect to complete all their qualifying degree requirements before the third week of July 2024 are eligible to apply.
