Haryana: Primary Schools To Remain Closed Till January 27 Amid Cold Wave

In an official notice, the Directorate of School Education, Haryana, has directed all schools in the state to remain shut for classes 1 to 5 amid severe cold wave.

In a fresh development, the Haryana government has directed to close all schools in the state for classes 1 to 5, till January 27, amid severe cold wave. The move from the Haryana government comes as a step to safeguard small school children from being exposed to the harsh closed weather. While classes would remain closed for primary classes, the non-teaching staff will attend schools as usual. The Directorate of School Education, Haryana released an official notice notifying the closure of classes for primary classes in the state.

“The Department has decided to close the schools for students of classes 1st to 5th till 27.01.2024 (Government, Private and Govt. recognized) due to the ongoing intense cold wave. Although the teaching and non-teaching staff shall attend the school as usual,” reads the official notice.

Schools being closed due to extreme cold wave in several parts of India have been a familiar sight this winter season. Earlier, a winter break for all schools in Haryana was announced from January 1 to January 15, 2024, and schools for classes 4 to 12 were opened back on January 16.

Earlier this week, the Delhi government also announced plans of bringing in a ‘hybrid’ learning model for schools in the wake of harsh weather conditions like cold and heat wave, and increasing pollution levels in the Delhi-NCR region.

Delhi education  minister Atishi directed officials to come up with a hybrid learning plan for Delhi schools by bringing together Delhi Model Virtual Schools (DMVS) programme and the physical school model of the Delhi government, news agency PTI reported an official statement as saying.

“Through DMVS, we will make all Delhi government schools hybrid so that our children's education does not suffer from the vagaries of weather. For those children who cannot reach school, the Delhi government is taking the finest education to them through DMVS," Atishi said.
