Haldwani Government Medical College Expels 10 Students From Hostel For Ragging

The suspended students have also been slapped with a fine of Rs 25,000 each, as per the college principal Dr Arun Joshi.

The Haldwani Government Medical College has expelled 10 students from its hostel due to their alleged involvement in ragging at the college campus. The college administration has also barred these students from attending classes for a week, as per an official. The move from the college administration came following in information that junior students were being allegedly ragged at the second-year MBBS hostel. A fine of Rs 25,000 has also been imposed on each of the suspended students, Principal Dr Arun Joshi was reported as saying by news agency PTI.

Dr Joshi further informed that after the information received from a guard about the incidents of ragging in the college hostel, the disciplinary committee held a meeting, which was followed by another convened by the anti-ragging committee. He further added that a report on the conduct of students has also been sought from the hostel warden. Only after reviewing and considering all circumstances, the accused students will be given the admit cards for examinations, he said.

Notably, incidents of ragging by ragging have also surfaced previously on the Haldwani Government Medical College campus. Earlier this year in March, the college administration expelled three students from a hostel for six months for ragging, and also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each of them.

Besides the Haldwani Medical College, incidents of ragging in medical colleges have also surfaced from various parts of the country, in the past few months. Earlier in September this year, several students of the RG Kar Medical College’s hostel in Kolkata, filed a complaint of of “ragging”, “mental torture”, “harassment” and “intimidation” against 13 senior students of the college, as per a Telegraph report.

Another news of ragging that did rounds around the internet was from Hyderabad’s Gandhi Medical College (GMC). In September this year, the GMC Hyderabad administration, suspended ten students, after they were found guilty of ragging junior students at the men’s hostel, as per an Indian Express report.
