DU Offers 'Centenary Chance' To Drop-Out Students To Complete Their Degrees

New Delhi: The Delhi University released guidelines for the "centenary chance" exam on Thursday for former students who could not complete their degree. The university said eligible candidates could appear for a maximum of four papers in the annual mode and up to eight papers for semester-wise tests.

According to the varsity, the registration site for interested candidates will start on May 1, PTI reported.

Drop-out students have been offered this one-time opportunity in light of Delhi University's year-long centennial festivities, which begin on May 1.

Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh said in March that DU students who dropped out will be granted a "centenary chance" to finish their studies and receive their degrees.

A proposal for this was accepted at a special Executive Council meeting on January 28 to address the university's centennial festivities.

According to the guidelines, undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as those pursuing professional degrees, who have finished their course work and the legislative requirements for course completion, will be considered for the centennial opportunity.

However, M.Phil. and PhD candidates who were unable to complete their degrees would not be accepted for this opportunity, according to the guidelines.

Candidates who are eligible may sit for a maximum of four exams in the yearly method of examination and up to eight papers under the semester system.

The exam will be held in physical form between October of this year and March of next year. According to the university, it will be held for theoretical and practical examinations only, not for internal assessment.

The varsity told students that while applying for the "centenary chance," they must supply the necessary facts and papers.

"Failing to provide the details/documents, as required, may lead to non-consideration of his/her candidature in the Centenary Chance examination. Further, it will entail no right for the students to claim any relief in any forum on this count," the guidelines were quoted by PTI in its report.

Candidates will have to pay the examination fee of Rs 2000 per paper.
