Delhi University Decides To Implement NEP From Next Session - Check Details Here

The decision of implementing the NEP 2020 from the next session was taken after a meeting of the Standing Committee on Academic Matters on Monday, August 23, 2021.

New Delhi: The Delhi University (DU) decision to implement the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 from the next academic session has instigated a row with varsity teachers calling a strike on Monday to oppose the move.

The decision to implement the NEP 2020, the four-year undergraduate programme, and the multiple entries and exit options for students was taken after a meeting of the Standing Committee on Academic Matters on Monday, August 23, 2021.

However, at the meeting, the committee postponed the discussion regarding the implementation of the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC). The recommedations made by the Standing Committee will now be taken up for discussion at the Academic Council meeting on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

A 42-member high powered committee has been constituted by the varsity to look into the implementation of the NEP 2020. The committe had recommended to continue with the varsity's existing three-year undergraduate programme and to assimilate a four-year degree programme in its structure and also to implement both one-year and two-year postgraduate programmes.

According to a PTI report, all this was approved during the meeting.

The Standing Committee accepted the proposal to retain the three-year honours degree courses by assimilating them in the four-year honours degree and four-year honours degree with research courses.

The committee also said the quality of the degree conferred by Delhi University should not be compromised and hence the existing structure and workload should continue along with the addition of different new courses across the disciplines.
