The Supreme Court has also said that CBSE can also go ahead with its assessment scheme which will consider marks achieved by the students in the last 3 papers for class 12th.
However, CBSE Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj has said that the class 12 students will get a chance to sit for optional exams to improve scores. The exam controller also said that if class 12 students appear for optional exams, marks obtained will be treated as a final score.
The Central Board of Secondary Education's notification in expected to be uploaded in an hour, while ICSE has got a week's time to notify with slight changes on optional exams for Class X.
Marking Scheme
Students who have appeared for more than three subjects in their Class 10 and 12 board examinations will be marked for pending papers on the basis of an average, which will be calculated by combining marks scored in top three subjects for which examinations have already been held, the Central Board of Secondary Education has informed the Supreme Court in an affidavit.
Students who have written only one or two board examination papers so far will be evaluated on the basis of marks scored in the exams combined with the internal assessment. These students will also be allowed to appear in the optional examinations conducted by CBSE to improve their performance if they desire to do so. The result of these students will also be declared along with other students.

Candidates whose results will be declared based on the assessment scheme will be allowed to appear in these optional examinations to improve their performance if they wish so. However, the marks obtained by a candidate in these optional examinations will be treated as final for those who have opted to take these examinations.
For candidates who do not wish to opt for these exams, marks calculated through the assessment scheme would be considered as final.
However, only students of Class 12 will have the option of appearing for the pending exams at a later stage, whenever the central government finds the situation conducive.
This option is not available for students of Class 10, who will be marked only on the basis of previous exams.
For the students of the ICSE board, the average formula will be slightly different from the CBSE but ICSE told the Court that they may give the option to write an exam at a later stage to class 10 students as well.
Academicians and parent bodies on Thursday welcomed the CBSE's decision to cancel pending board exams in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases but said it may affect the performance of students, many of whom do not take pre-boards seriously.
The remaining CBSE and ICSE board examinations for classes 10 and 12, scheduled to be held in July, have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Supreme Court was informed on Thursday.
