CBSE Board Exams 2020 For Class 10th Cancelled, Made Optional For Class 12th | Check Details
Exms for class 10th and 12th scheduled for July 1-15 have been cancelled, Central Board of Secondary Education told the Supreme Court
Supreme Court Judgement on CBSE Board Exam 2020: Exams for class 10th and 12th scheduled for July 1-15 have been cancelled, Central Board of Secondary Education told the Supreme Court in the much-awaited hearing on Thursday. It however asserted that it will conduct an exam for those class 12 students who opt for it when the condition becomes conducive. The court also directed CBSE to issue a fresh notification clarifying the status of the class 12 exam. The court will also continue to hear the case tomorrow.
During the hearing today the Centre told the apex court that a scheme has been formulated for assessment of class 12th students on the basis of the last exams. Class 12th students can also opt for exams to be conducted later. The Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta informed the Supreme Court that Delhi, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu have conveyed an inability to conduct the examinations. Mehta also informed that the ICSE board also to cancel class 10 and 12 board exams. However, ICSE doesn't agree to give an option for students to write an exam later.

The Board was supposed to give an update on the exams on June 23, Tuesday but it sought more time and the hearing was adjourned till June 25th. On June 17, the apex court had asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to respond to a plea by parents asking for the cancellation of the pending CBSE board exam. According to a report by PTI, the plea which was submitted by parents of students who are appearing in class 12 examination had sought a direction to the CBSE to cancel the exams and declare the results on the basis of exams that have already been conducted and internal assessment. The petitioners also raised concern over the safety of students especially since cases of coronavirus is on a rise.
The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Board (ICSE) will also cancel the 10th and 12th exams. Results will be declared on the basis of assessment.
