CAT 2023: Record 3.3 Lakh Registrations, New Centres And Focus On Non-Engineering, Women Candidates

CAT 2023 has recorded an impressive 30% increase in registrations compared to the previous year.

New Delhi: The Common Admission Test 2023 (CAT 2023) witnessed a remarkable 30% surge in the registrations compared to the previous year, with approximately 3.3 lakh aspirants vying for MBA admission in the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) across the country, ABP Live has learnt. This year, new cities have been added to the list of test centres, the application ecosystem will be "more user-friendly", and some IIMs will give extra weightage to non-engineer and women candidates, according to Dr. Sanjeet Singh, Professor, Decision Sciences Area, IIM Lucknow, who is the CAT 2023 Convener.

Asked why it was decided to have additional exam centres for CAT 2023, Prof Singh said it was "to make the exam easily accessible to the applicants". "And also, a greater number of applicants leads to the increase in the number of test centres," he added.

Asked if there is any proposal to conduct CAT twice a year, Singh replied in the negative.

"The number of participants in CAT has seen a steady increase over the years, with 3.3 lakhs taking the exam in 2023, compared to 2.55 lakhs in 2022, 2.3 lakhs in 2021, 2.28 lakhs in 2020, and 2.44 lakhs in 2019," he added.
