25-Year-Old MBA Student Dies By Suicide At IP University; Expulsion Over Birthday Party Alleged
A 25-year-old MBA student, Gautam Kumar died by suicide after jumping from the seventh floor of his hostel at IP University.
New Delhi: A 25-year-old student tragically died on Sunday after allegedly taking his own life by jumping from the seventh floor of his hostel at IP University in southwest Delhi, news agency PTI quoted officials. The Delhi Police in a statement said that a call was received at 6:20 pm at the Dwarka North Police Station regarding the suicide of a student. Upon reaching the scene, authorities identified the student as Gautam Kumar, a resident of Vaishali in Bihar.
Kumar, a first-year MBA student at IP University's main campus in Sector-16, allegedly jumped from the seventh floor of the hostel building. His body was transported to DDU Hospital for a postmortem examination. The police have initiated an inquiry and investigative proceedings are ongoing, the statement added.
The university administration has yet to issue a response.
Sources suggest the student had been distressed after being expelled from the hostel for celebrating a birthday party.
Some of his classmates were said to have raised slogans in protest against the university administration.
Medical Student Found Dead In Delhi
Dr. Navdeep Singh, a second-year MD student at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC), was found dead in his hostel room on Wednesday morning. The police received information about his death around 7:10 a.m. after his father, unable to reach him by phone, sent a friend to check on him. When the friend found the door locked from the inside, it was forced open, revealing that Dr. Singh had died by hanging.
According to the police, initial investigations indicate suicide, though no suicide note was recovered from the scene. Inquest proceedings are currently underway. Dr. Singh, originally from Muktsar, Punjab, was described by his peers as a dedicated and hardworking doctor.
His sudden death has left the medical community and his classmates in shock. The tragic incident highlights the growing pressure faced by medical students, with no official statement yet released by the institution regarding the case.
