Days After Arvind Kejriwal's Arrest, ED Questions Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot In Liquor Policy Case

A week after Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate, the agency summoned Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot for questioning today.

Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot on Saturday arrived at the office of the Enforcement Directorate after the federal agency issued summons to him earlier today to appear for questioning in connection with the money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy case. The development came in a week after the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the agency in connection with the same case. AAP leader Gahlot, who is an MLA from Najafgarh, was also a part of the panel that prepared the draft of the Delhi government's liquor policy for 2021-22, which has been scrapped now.

Two days ago, the Delhi court had denied granting bail to the AAP chief, extending his ED custody till April 1.

As per media reports, Gahlot, 49, has been summoned to appear for questioning to record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). As per ED, Gahlot allowed the then-AAP communication in-charge Vijay Nair to use his official residence while the draft of the liquor policy was being prepared. ED had also alleged that the AAP leader had changed his mobile numbers multiple times.

The Enforcement Directorate described the practice of allowing the use of government residence by a public servant to someone other than them as a "criminal breach of trust." Following this, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took action in the matter.

Former deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia and AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh have already been arrested earlier in connection with the liquor policy case.
