G20 Restrictions In Delhi: The curbs include prohibition of Goods Vehicles, Buses, taxis, and three-wheeler Scooter Rickshaws on certain dates. Areas of the national capital will be marked as Controlled and regulated zones.
In the run-up to the upcoming G20 meeting, the Delhi government has released a Gazette notification outlining a series of stringent traffic and movement restrictions that will be in effect from September 7 to September 10, 2023. The curbs include prohibition of Goods Vehicles, Buses, taxis, and three-wheeler Scooter Rickshaws on certain dates. Areas of the national capital will be marked as Controlled and regulated zones. The aim of these measures is to enhance security to ensure the smooth operation of the mega event.

G20 Restrictions In Delhi: Key Curbs Outlined In The Notification
- Prohibition of Goods Vehicles and Buses: All types of goods vehicles, commercial vehicles, interstate buses, and local city buses, including Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) buses, will be prohibited from operating on Mathura Road (beyond Ashram Chowk), Bhairon Road, Purana Quila Road, and inside the Pragati Maidan Tunnel from 00:00 hours on the intervening night of September 7 and 8, 2023, until 23:59 hours on September 10, 2023.
- Vehicles with valid 'No Entry Permissions' permitted: Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs), Medium Goods Vehicles (MGVs), and Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs) will not be allowed to enter Delhi from 21:00 hours on September 7, 2023, until 23:59 hours on September 10, 2023. However, goods vehicles carrying Essential Commodities such as milk, vegetables, fruits, medical supplies, etc., with valid 'No Entry Permissions,' will be exempt from this restriction.

Some exceptions will be made for bonafide residents, authorized vehicles, and vehicles involved in housekeeping, catering, waste management, etc., for hotels, hospitals, and other important installations within the district. A detailed list of roads falling within Controlled Zone-I is provided in Schedule- 'I' of the notification.
- Regulated Zone: The entire area inside the Ring Road (Mahatma Gandhi Marg) will be categorized as a "Regulated Zone" from 05:00 hours on September 8, 2023, until 23:59 hours on September 10, 2023. This zone will only allow access to bonafide residents, authorized vehicles, emergency vehicles, and vehicles carrying passengers heading to the Airport, Old Delhi, and New Delhi Railway Stations.

— ANI (@ANI) September 5, 2023 - Additional Controlled Zones: From 00:00 hours on September 10, 2023, until 14:00 hours on the same day, several roads and junctions will be designated as "Controlled Zone-II." This includes critical locations such as W-Point, A-Point, DDU Marg, Vikas Marg (up to Noida Link Road - Pusta Road), Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Delhi Gate, and more. A complete list of roads and stretches within Controlled Zone-II is provided in Schedule - 'III.'
- Taxi and TSR Restrictions: No TSR (Three-Wheeled Scooter Rickshaws) and Taxi services will be permitted to enter or operate in New Delhi District from 05:00 hours on September 9, 2023, until 23:59 hours on September 10, 2023.
Several exceptions to these restrictions have been outlined, including provisions for existing commercial vehicles within Delhi, taxis serving bonafide residents and tourists with hotel bookings in New Delhi District, and the free flow of general traffic, excluding goods vehicles and buses, from Rajokari Border.
Moreover, vehicles belonging to the Armed Forces, Paramilitary Forces, Police, Disaster Management teams, Fire tenders, Ambulances, and those engaged in emergency services like road maintenance, electric supply maintenance, water/sewage line management, communication network upkeep, etc., will be allowed to move freely throughout Delhi.
The notification will be in effect from September 7 until September 10. Appropriate traffic signs will be placed to guide and inform road users about these restrictions, in accordance with section 116 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
These measures are enacted to ensure the safety and efficient operation of the G20 meeting, and residents and commuters are urged to plan their travel accordingly during the specified dates.
