Delhiites Wake Up To Strong Winds After Hot Feb, Rain With Thunderstorm Likely In 2 Hours

After a hot February, Delhi-NCR is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall in the next two hours.

New Delhi: After a record hot February, strong winds finally brought some relief to Delhi and light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm is also expected in the next two hours in the national capital and adjoining areas as predicted by the IMD.

"Light to moderate rain with thunderstorm expected in adjoining areas of isolated places of North-West Delhi, South-West Delhi & adjoining areas of Delhi-NCR during next 2 hours," IMD said.

"Light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi, NCR ( Hindon AF Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram) Karnal, Meham, Rohtak, Bhiwani (Haryana) Hastinapur, Chandpur, Amroha (U.P.) during next 2 hours," it added.

On Tuesday the weather bulletin stated that the maximum temperature will fall by 2-3 degrees over 48 hours and rise thereafter over the northwestern plains. The maximum and minimum degrees in the national capital and nearby areas will be around 32 and 14 degrees, the forecast said. 

The city registered a high of 32.1 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, at the Safdarjung observatory, the national capital's primary weather station. It was seven notches above normal.

On Tuesday evening, the relative humidity was recorded at 42 per cent, according to the IMD data.

Delhi recorded the third-highest temperature in 63 years in February, with the average maximum temperature for this year was pegged at 27.7 degrees Celsius. 

According to data shared by officials, the city had registered an average maximum temperature of 27.9 degrees Celsius in February at Safdarjung station in 1960. The corresponding figure in 2006 stood at 29.7 degrees Celsius and the reading for the year 2023 stands at 27.7 degrees Celsius, as per the data shared.

Delhi recorded the third hottest February day since 1969 on February 20 with the maximum temperature at the Safdarjung observatory soaring to 33.6 degrees Celsius.
