More Than 3,000 Covid Cases Reported In Delhi Last Week, Tally Increased By 121%: Official Data

In the last week, more than 3,000 Covid cases have been reported in Delhi, while the number of active cases has increased by more than 121 per cent.

The sudden increase in virus infection in the nation has once again prompted health institutions to review their preparations ahead of surge times. More than 3,000 cases of Covid have been recorded in Delhi in the last week, while the tally of active cases has increased by over 121 per cent, according to the official data revealed by the national capital's health ministry on Friday. This comes after a long period of overcoming the fear caused by the Coronavirus outbreak two years ago and gradually accepting the coexistence of the virus and the conduct of daily life routines.

On Thursday, the national capital recorded 606 cases, the most in over seven months, with a positivity rate of 16.98 per cent. On August 26, the city recorded 620 cases.

According to data shared by the Delhi government's health department on Thursday, the number of active cases stood at 2,060, a jump of more than 121 percent from March 30 when the corresponding figure was 932. Six fatalities were reported between March 30 and April 6, including two on April 3.

According to health department bulletins distributed in recent days, "Covid finding was incidental" in all of the cases. In the last week, the positivity rate has also increased.

On April 5, the city had the highest positivity rate in nearly 15 months, at 26.54 percent, with 509 people testing positive in a single day. In January of last year, the positivity rate reached 30 per cent.

The Covid Surge Pattern In Delhi:

The number of new Covid infections in Delhi has increased in recent days, coinciding with an increase in H3N2 influenza cases in the country.

On March 30, the city had 295 cases with no fatalities. The positivity rate was 12.48 per cent at the time.

As of Thursday, the city's Covid death toll stood at 26,534, with a total of 20,12,670 cases. According to the data, 3,569 Covid tests were performed on Wednesday. The daily case count increased after March 30 to 416 on April 1 and 429 on April 2. On April 4, there were 521 cases, and on April 5, there were 509.

The total number of cases reported during the Match 30-April 6 period is 3,069.

The Delhi government has stated that it is monitoring the increase in Covid cases and is "prepared to face any eventuality."

Addressing reporters after chairing a review meeting on the Covid situation, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal last week said there was no need to worry for now and that the city government was taking all required steps.

On January 16, the number of new cases had fallen to zero for the first time since the pandemic's outbreak.

The Recent Spike In Delhi Covid Cases:

The number of reported cases has increased in recent weeks. According to the health department, nearly 120 of the city's 7,989 dedicated Covid hospitals are occupied, with 1,337 patients in home isolation.

Despite a gradual increase in the number of Covid cases in Delhi, medical experts believe the new XBB.1.16 variant of the virus is to blame.

They maintained, however, that there is no need to panic and that people should follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get vaccine booster shots.

They also stated that the increase in the number of cases could be due to more people getting tested for Covid as a precaution when they become infected with the influenza virus and develop fever and other symptoms.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, the increase in influenza cases is due to the Influenza A subtype H3N2.

The H3N2 virus causes the most hospitalisations compared to the other subtypes. A runny nose, persistent cough, and fever are among the symptoms.
