13-Year-Old Boy From Uttarakhand Detained For Sending Bomb Threat Email To Delhi Airport

A 13-year-old boy in Delhi sent a hoax email claiming a bomb was planted on a Dubai-bound flight. Later, the boy revealed that he was inspired by a similar incident and did it just for fun.

A 13-year-old boy was detained for allegedly sending a false email claiming that a bomb was planted in the Dubai-bound flight from Delhi Airport, police confirmed on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport), Usha Rangnani, stated that the boy had sent the mail "just for fun" after being motivated by the news of another teenager who made a similar hoax bomb threat call a few days back.

As per the report of PTI, the incident appeared on Monday when a complaint was filed regarding a bomb threat on a Dubai-bound flight on June 18, DCP outlined.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered, and an investigation was launched. All necessary guidelines, protocols, and SOPs were followed to ensure passenger security, she also said. "Airport was put on high alert, and an emergency was declared," she added.

However, the investigation revealed that the email was found to be a hoax, she further added. "During the investigation, it was revealed that the e-mail ID was deleted just after sending the email. The email was traced at Pithoragarh in Uttranchal," Rangnani said.

A team was dispatched to arrest the boy for sending the hoax email, she said, news agency PTI reported.

"The boy told the police team that his parents had given a mobile to him for study purposes through which he sent the email and later deleted his ID. He did not share any information with his parents as he was scared. He was apprehended and handed over to his parents," Usha Rangnani added.

According to TOI, the airport DCP also mentioned another incident that took place earlier this month. The incident involved a different 13-year-old boy who allegedly sent a hoax email claiming there was a bomb on an Air Canada flight bound for Toronto from Delhi. This boy also confessed that he did it "just for fun" to see if he could be traced.

A Dubai-bound flight that was scheduled to take off from Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi received a bomb threat email on Monday. However, the threat came out to be a hoax as no bomb was found when the plane was checked.
