Is Dilip Ghosh Planning To Float New Party? The BJP Veteran Responds Amid Growing Rift
While he has subtly expressed displeasure, particularly targeting the camp of senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari without naming him, he has refrained from openly criticising the party leadership.

Senior BJP leader and former West Bengal state president Dilip Ghosh has found himself increasingly sidelined within the party, fueling speculation in political circles about a possible new political outfit. Ghosh, while talking to ABP Ananda, denied any such plans, asserting his commitment to the BJP.
From key party events in Bengal to high-level meetings in Delhi, Ghosh has notably been absent in recent months. While he has subtly expressed displeasure, particularly targeting the camp of senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari without naming him, he has refrained from openly criticising the party leadership. Despite being the BJP’s most successful state president in Bengal to date, Ghosh appears increasingly isolated.
Speculation intensified after his recent appearance, along with his wife, at the inauguration of the Jagannath temple in Digha, following an invitation from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Many in the BJP viewed this move as controversial. Ghosh has since faced strong criticism from party colleagues such as Arjun Singh and Soumitra Khan, while the ruling Trinamool Congress has used the opportunity to mock the BJP’s internal discord.
Ghosh Not Invited to Modi, Shah Rallies
Adding fuel to the fire, Ghosh was not invited to two major events. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally in Alipurduar and Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s program, both held recently in Bengal. BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar has remained non-committal when asked about Ghosh’s absence, further reinforcing the perception of an internal rift.
Amid these developments, speculation is rife across Bengal’s political landscape that Dilip Ghosh may break away and form a new political party. Addressing these rumours, Ghosh told ABP Ananda, "I have built a party, not formed one. There’s no need to float a new one. We’ve fought for 70 years to establish this party, and it will fulfil the dreams of the people here. I have no plans to start a separate party. We don’t believe in that kind of politics."
In keeping with this stance, Ghosh also visited ailing BJP leader Abhijit Gangopadhyay in hospital, signalling that he remains invested in the party’s internal affairs.
