WATCH: Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging At Silk Board Metro Station, Commute Disrupted
Silk Board Metro Station in Bengaluru faced severe waterlogging after overnight rains, disrupting commuters and causing traffic snarls. Authorities issued advisories for alternate routes.

A fresh spell of heavy overnight rain on Sunday wreaked havoc across Bengaluru, leading to severe waterlogging in several parts of the city and bringing Monday morning traffic to a near standstill. Thousands of office-goers encountered flooded junctions and bottlenecked routes, leaving traffic personnel struggling to manage the chaos on the ground.
Key intersections across north and east Bengaluru — home to several IT parks and corporate hubs — were inundated, with roads resembling flowing streams rather than busy arterial routes.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police issued multiple advisories, warning commuters about waterlogged roads and urging them to drive with caution. Areas flagged for slow-moving traffic and water accumulation include New BEL Road near Ayyappa Temple, Nagawara Bus Stop heading towards Sarayipalya, and the Allasandra to Yelahanka Circle corridor.
The Panathur Road underbridge (RUB), infamous for flooding during rains, was submerged again on Monday morning. The police advisory read:
"Water logging reported at Balagere T Cross en route to Panathur RUB. Commuters advised to take alternate routes. Drive cautiously and maintain safe distance. Dial 112 for emergencies."
The Outer Ring Road, Bengaluru’s overburdened IT corridor, also experienced widespread waterlogging at choke points such as Silk Board to Agara Signal, Kensington Road toward Gurudwara, Silk Board to Bellandur, and Lowry Railway Underpass to Mahadevapura.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall across 23 districts in Karnataka, including Bengaluru, from Monday through Thursday. The alert warns of moderate to heavy thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 50–60 km/h. This follows a wet weekend that already caused severe waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the city.
Affected districts include Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Mandya, Mysuru, Hassan, Kodagu, Belagavi, Bidar, Raichur, Yadgir, Davanagere, and Chitradurga, with widespread rainfall and thunderstorms expected throughout the week.
In response, Bengaluru’s BBMP, traffic police, and civic bodies have activated emergency plans. DCP (Traffic-East) Sahil Bagla noted preparations to handle tree falls and road blockages, while DCP (Traffic-North) Siri Gowri DR confirmed that waterlogging-prone spots have been flagged and shared with BBMP for immediate action.
Local MLA B Basavraj visited the severely affected Sai Layout area on Monday, assessing the situation from a JCB. Authorities are deploying JCBs to clear waterlogged areas, especially where water has entered residents’ homes.
The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre shared on X:
"Scattered to widespread moderate rain with thunder and lightning in coastal districts and heavy rain at isolated places across the state in southern interior districts today and tomorrow, in northern interior districts from May 19 to 22 is expected."
An IMD official added, "As per the current pattern of the cyclonic circulation, Karnataka, especially the coastal parts, will get heavy rainfall. Bengaluru is also expected to receive heavy rainfall for the next two days."
