Mumbai Actress Files Complaint Against YSRCP Leaders, IPS Officers Over 'False Case' Against Her

The actress visited the Vijayawada Police Commissioner's office to file a formal complaint against a YSRCP leader, two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, and other lower-rank officials.

The Vijayawada Police recorded the statement of Mumbai-based actress who alleged harassment by a leader of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and several police officers on Friday. The actress visited the Vijayawada Police Commissioner's office to file a formal complaint against a YSRCP leader, two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, and other lower-rank officials.

Upon reaching the Police Commissioner’s office, she met with Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu and lodged her complaint. An inquiry officer then began recording her statement in the presence of her legal team. A First Information Report (FIR) is expected to be registered based on the details she provided.

The actress and her family allegedly faced harassment from the police at the behest of a leader from the ruling party at the time. Previously, she had lodged an online complaint with the Andhra Pradesh Police regarding the matter. The Home Minister, V. Anitha, stated on Thursday that the government is taking the case seriously, appointing a woman police officer to oversee the investigation. The Home Minister assured that any police officer found guilty would face strict action.

Following directives from Director General of Police (DGP) Dweraka Tirumala Rao, Vijayawada Police Commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Sravanti Roy to lead the inquiry. The actress claims that the two IPS officers, along with other lower-rank officials, harassed her and her family in relation to a cheating case filed against her by YSRCP leader KVR Vidya Sagar.

According to her, she and her family were pressured to withdraw a case they had filed against Vidya Sagar at the Bandra Kuria Police Station in Mumbai. The YSRCP leader had accused the actress of fabricating documents related to five acres of land and extorting Rs 5 lakh from him. A case of cheating and forgery was subsequently registered against her and her parents at Ibrahimpatnam Police Station in Andhra Pradesh based on Vidya Sagar's complaint.
