UP Man Dies By Suicide At In-Laws' House In Jhansi, Had Recorded Video Claiming Threat To Life

A 26-year-old man died by suicide after hanging from a saree at his in-laws’ house in the Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh. The decessed, identified as Balak Ram, filmed a video before killing himselves, in which he claimed that he was in danger. 

According to a report by India Today, Balak Ram and Sudha had been married for eight years and had two daughters. According to his father, Ram Prakash, Sudha had left for her parental home 15 days prior to the incident.

On the day of the tragedy, Balak Ram went to bring his wife back without informing his family. His father claimed that his son was threatened and pressured into taking this drastic step. “I was told to bring the village head with me when I went to get my daughter-in-law, even though there was no dispute. Later, we were informed that my son had taken his own life,” he said.

Upon being informed, the police rushed Balak Ram to Maharani Laxmibai Medical College, where doctors pronounced him dead. His body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Gopinath Soni stated that appropriate legal action would be taken based on the post-mortem findings and the family's complaint. Meanwhile, Sudha’s parents have maintained that Balak Ram died by suicide and have denied any involvement in the matter.

AMU Student Dies By Suicide 

In a separate incident, a 25-year-old postgraduate student at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Uttar Pradesh was found dead by suicide outside his hostel room on Friday (February 21), police said.  

Mohammad Shakir, a first-year MA Theology student, was discovered hanging from an iron rod concealed in a corner outside his room in 'Mumbai Hostel' on the university campus, according to AMU Proctor Mohamad Waseem Ali.  

According to PTI, Shakir was last seen in his room around 10 PM the previous night and had eaten his evening meal as usual. His roommates mentioned that he appeared normal before the incident.
