UP: National-Level Taekwondo Player's Head Severed Over Property Dispute In Jaunpur

Anurag Yadav, a national-level taekwondo player, was murdered over a land dispute in Uttar Pradesh. Following the murder, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav slammed the government for the "rising crime rate".

A national-level taekwondo, Anurag Yadav alias Chhotu (17), from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, was murdered and his head severed from the body on Wednesday. The murder was allegedly committed over a land dispute in Kabiruddinpur village under the Gaurabadshahpur police station's jurisdiction.

Anurag was a student of Raj College and an accomplished Taekwondo player. He had won a bronze medal in the Indo-Nepal International Taekwondo Competition in Chandauli and a silver medal in the Open Nationals in Noida. His decapitated body was found in a field 500 metres away from his home, creating panic in the entire area.

Soon after the incident, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav targeted the Yogi Adityanath government. He said: "There is a strange contradictory relationship between today's government and crime. On one hand, both are together, on the other, the weaker the government falls, the more powerful and active the criminals are becoming."

The incident occurred in the home village of Zafarabad MLA Jagdish Narayan Rai. The police reached the spot and began an investigation. District Magistrate of Jaunpur Dineshchandra and Superintendant of Police Ajay Pal Sharma, too, reached the spot and met the family members.

The DM has asked ADM Ram Akshbar Chauhan to investigate the land dispute case and submit a report within three days. Police teams from three police stations were present at the spot. SP Ajay Pal Sharma said that the teenager was murdered over a land dispute. A few suspects have been taken into custody and are being questioned.

Sharma said: "The incident stems from a land dispute that has been ongoing between two parties for approximately 40-45 years. In this dispute, individuals named Ramesh and Lalta attacked and killed members of the opposing party. Currently, the DM and I are present at the site, and an investigation has been conducted. Some accused have been detained, and they are being interrogated, with further legal actions underway.
