Kanpur Man Stabs Himself On Video Call After Argument With Estranged Wife

A 26-year-old man in Kanpur, UP, stabbed himself during a video call with his estranged wife after ongoing arguments.

A man stabbed himself during a video call with his estranged wife in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur on Thursday. The 26-year-old, known as Dinesh, also called Ajay Bajrangi, reportedly inflicted knife wounds on himself during the call.

According to an India Today report, Dinesh’s family alleged that he has had frequent arguments with his wife, Radha. The couple got married in June 2023. Following a recent argument, Radha, who hails from Fatehpur, returned to her maternal home and declined to return despite Dinesh's repeated requests.

Dinesh works as a tailor and lived with his family, he had earlier rented a room in Baradevi after Radha said that they should live alone separately. The couple stayed there for about eight months.

After Radha moved out, the couple frequently fought over phone calls.

His mother, Sangeeta Devi, stated that Dinesh was mentally ill and alleged that Radha would physically assault him and neglect his well-being. His father, Ram Babu, claimed that on a phone call on April 2, Radha had threatened them, saying they should meet Dinesh soon, as she would have him sent to jail soon.

On Thursday, while on a video call with Radha, Dinesh reportedly picked up a knife and stabbed himself several times. Seeing this, Radha screamed. Alarmed by the commotion, family members rushed to the scene and found Dinesh critically injured and covered in blood.

As per the report, he was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead. The police sent the body for post-mortem and initiated an investigation into the matter.

In another incident, a newlywed woman who had been married for just about 40 days was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her bedroom at her in-laws' residence in Behala Pathakpara in March. The incident occurred shortly after a video call with her husband, during which the couple reportedly had a heated argument.

Pooja Singh, 28, and her husband, Mukesh Singh, an IT professional, had a tense conversation the night before, after which Mukesh left the house.

Pooja reportedly made a video call to Mukesh and had another argument before locking herself in a room on the ground floor of their two-storey house on Pathakpara Road.

When she didn't respond to repeated knocking, family members, including her mother-in-law, Manju Singh, forced the door open and found her hanging from the ceiling fan. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
