The Wednesday demolition took place in a heavy police presence with over 250 personnel deployed.
"Today, action is being taken to demolish houses at four locations where lease conditions were violated. Over 250 police personnel have been deployed here," IPS officer Rahul Deshmukh told IANS.
"Additionally, police reserves have been stationed at Harifatak and Court Square to ensure smooth traffic management. The entire operation is being carried out in an orderly manner," he added.
"This area, Harifatak, was part of a major UDA scheme. Due to violations of lease terms and the expiry of lease periods, the UDA’s Model Board cancelled all leases on 10.10.2023. In continuation of that decision, action is being taken today on four plots where seven structures have been built, violating norms," said Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) CEO Sandeep Soni.
"In many cases, single-storey buildings were converted into multiple commercial units, which breached lease conditions...," he added.
