In a tragic accident which unfolded at MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur on Saturday evening as a section of a dilapidated building collapsed, leaving at least two people dead and several others injured. Rescue operations are ongoing, with officials confirming that one person may still be trapped under the debris.
According to East Singhbhum’s Senior Superintendent of Police, the collapse led to 15 individuals being trapped inside the building. "Two bodies have been recovered after part of a dilapidated building at MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur collapsed. Information was received that fifteen people are trapped. Twelve of them have been rescued," the SSP stated.

District authorities and emergency responders rushed to the site immediately after the incident. Jamshedpur Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal gave details about the ongoing rescue efforts: “Around 4 PM, we received information about a section of the corridor collapsing in the MGM building. Our rescue and other teams were immediately rushed to the spot. So far, we’ve accounted for 15 individuals—12 have been identified, 2 bodies have been recovered, and we suspect one more person may still be trapped. Rescue operation is ongoing.”

Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari visited the site and announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the decased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. "We have come on the instructions of the Chief Minister, our priority is to stand with the families of the deceased. The families of the deceased will be given Rs 5 lakh each as compensation and the injured will be given Rs 50,000. We will take concrete steps to ensure that such an incident does not happen again," he told reporters.
This recent incident in Jharkhand has raised fresh concerns about the safety of aging infrastructure in public buildings, particularly hospitals, and old government buildings. Authorities have assured that further investigation and preventive measures will follow.
