Storm Uproots Trees, Damages Crops Across Himachal, IMD Forecasts More Rain — WATCH

Severe thunderstorms in Himachal Pradesh caused widespread damage to crops and uprooted trees, though no casualties were reported.

The havoc left behind by the severe thunderstorm in various regions of Himachal Pradesh was visible on Thursday morning, as trees were uprooted, and crops were left damaged in multiple areas. No casualties have been reported so far, but the horticultural and agricultural sectors took a massive hit.

On Wednesday night, rain and thunderstorms lashed in parts of Himachal, on Wednesday night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain in the coming days.

Earlier, the IMD had forecasted rainfall across several areas of Himachal Pradesh between April 18 and April 21 due to an approaching strong Western Disturbance, reported ANI. The IMD stated that this disturbance is likely to affect the state, bringing light to moderate rainfall in most areas and heavy rainfall in the higher elevations.

One of the most severely impacted areas was the local road linking Richmond and Jakhoo, which became entirely impassable. The Forest Department responded promptly by dispatching individual teams of labourers to different affected locations to remove the debris.

"We began work early in the morning, and we are now clearing roads near the US Club and Richmond. Last night's storm hit around 11:50 pm and brought down trees in multiple areas," a labourer, Mohammad Usuf, said.

Videos shared online showed uprooted trees leading to road blockages. Binod, an employee of the Municipal Corporation, said that vehicular movement is blocked due to the storm.

“… My name is Binod. I work in the MC (Municipal Corporation). A tree has fallen here. Vehicular movement is blocked… There was a heavy storm last night," he told ANI.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange alert for the districts of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla from April 18 to 20. Additionally, a yellow alert has been announced for Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, Sirmaur, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti districts during the same period.
