Spousal Murder In Meerut: Woman, Lover Strangle Husband, Stage Snakebite Cover-Up

In Meerut, Amit Kashyap was murdered by his wife, Ravita, and her lover, Amardeep, who staged it as a snakebite. Initial assumptions were contradicted by the postmortem report, which revealed death by smothering.

Another case of spousal murder has emerged from Akbarpur village in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district. Speaking to news agency ANI, SP Rural Rakesh Mishra said that the police received information that a person from Akbarpur Sadat village, named Amit Kashyap, had died. It was said that he died of snakebite, Mishra said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

The Meerut SP further revealed that the postmortem report revealed that he died due to smothering. He said that the initial interrogation revealed that the wife had had an affair for the last few months, and when the husband came to know, they decided to murder him.

"They planned to kill him and show it as a death by snakebite... They bought a snake for Rs. 1000. They smothered the husband during the night and left the snake near his cot and got it removed with the help of a snake charmer...," the SP said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

The post-mortem report blew the lid off their plot as it showed that a man had been strangled. The woman, Ravita (30), and her lover, Amardeep (20), who was a friend of her husband, have been arrested, police said.

Circle Officer (CO) Abhishek Kumar Patel said the incident took place in Akbarpur Sadat village under the Behsuma police station area. Amit Kashyap (30), alias Mickey, was found dead at his home on Sunday morning. A venomous snake was found near his bed, leading to the assumption that he had died of a snakebite, Patel told PTI. However, the post-mortem report stated that he died due to asphyxiation, he said.

The two accused strangled Amit and then placed the snake near his body to make it look like an accident. The snake was trapped under the body and bit it several times, which led to the confusion during the preliminary investigation, he further added.
