'Spider-Man' Lands In Delhi Police Net For Theft Of Metro Track Copper Cable
Delhi Police has arrested three gang members, Govind Kumar, Sushil Kumar, and Aas Mohammad, for stealing copper cables from the metro track.
The Delhi Police has busted a notorious gang stealing copper cables from the metro track and arrested three accused.
The arrested accused have been identified as Govind Kumar alias Spiderman (24), Sushil Kumar (29) and Aas Mohammad (29). These accused were involved in stealing precious copper cables from the metro track and had committed several crimes so far.
According to DCP Metro Delhi Hareshwar V. Swami, the matter came to light when on February 3, when a DMRC official lodged a complaint of copper cable theft between Majlis Park and Azadpur metro station. This theft caused disruption in metro services. Considering the seriousness of the matter, a case was registered at Azadpur Metro Police Station. After this, two more similar incidents came to light, which further increased problems in metro operations
DCP Metro Delhi said that a joint police team, which included senior officers, was formed for the investigation. The special team traced the accused with modern technology and CCTV footage. The investigation found that the thieves used pile of construction debris to reach the metro track and steal copper cables by cutting the barbed wire. After the theft, these people used to dispose of the cable through a four-wheeler.
DCP Metro informed that the police identified the accused through technical surveillance and CCTV analysis and traced their vehicle.
Govind Kumar alias Spiderman and Sushil Kumar were arrested after a raid and 85 meters of stolen copper cable was recovered from them. After this, on the information given by Sushil Kumar, the third accused Aas Mohammad was arrested from his house in Okhla, from whom 10 meters of copper cable was recovered.
According to the information, police investigation revealed that all three accused are illiterate and drug addicts. They used to live with their families in rented houses in Delhi and had made cable theft their source of income. During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing theft near Dwarka Metro Station as well.
The DCP said that the police has disclosed a total of five cases against this gang. A case has been registered against the arrested accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (BNS) and the Delhi Metro Rail Act 2002. At present, the police is now searching for other accused associated with this gang.
