‘Sonam Raghuvanshi Didn’t Surrender’: Brother of Murdered MP Businessman On Accuses Arrest
Raja Raghuvanshi’s brother disputes wife Sonam’s arrest in his murder, claiming the couple was happy and she didn’t surrender. Family demands a CBI probe into the case.

In a shocking twist to the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, the man whose body was discovered in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills just days after going missing on his honeymoon, his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, has now been taken into custody. The development has added a new layer of mystery to a case that has already captivated the nation.
Sonam Found in Uttar Pradesh, Family Disputes Surrender Claim
Late Sunday night, 24-year-old Sonam Raghuvanshi, originally from Govind Nagar, Indore, was found near a roadside eatery — Kashi Dhaba — along the Varanasi-Ghazipur highway in Uttar Pradesh. According to Uttar Pradesh’s Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Amitabh Yash, Sonam was taken for preliminary medical care at Sadar Hospital before being transferred to a One Stop Centre for further assistance.
Eyewitnesses at the dhaba say Sonam appeared suddenly around 1 AM and requested to use someone’s phone to call her family. Minutes later, local police arrived and took her into custody. Authorities have not confirmed whether she willingly surrendered, but her in-laws insist she did not.
Raja’s Brother Speaks Out: “They Were a Happy Couple”
Vipul Raghuvanshi, Raja’s brother, has publicly questioned the narrative around Sonam’s arrest. “I spoke to Govind around 2 AM,” he said. “That’s when I learned Sonam had been found in UP. We contacted the local police, and they detained her. But she didn’t surrender. As a family, we refuse to believe she’s the accused until there’s a confession.”
Vipul emphasized that there were no visible cracks in Raja and Sonam’s marriage. “They were happy together. I never saw them fight. Yet, we haven’t even received the post-mortem report. How are we supposed to trust this investigation?”
He went on to criticize the handling of the case, claiming that the Meghalaya Police have been opaque. “We tried contacting the Superintendent of Police several times—he didn’t pick up. The Chief Minister says the police are working around the clock, but we’re being kept in the dark.”
A Case Wrapped in Questions
The murder of Raja Raghuvanshi has gripped the public since he went missing on May 23 during his honeymoon trip to Meghalaya. His body was found days later in a remote ditch, while his wife, Sonam, had seemingly vanished without a trace.
The sudden reappearance of Sonam and her subsequent arrest have reignited speculation and scrutiny over the investigation. Adding fuel to the fire, her father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi, has accused the Meghalaya Police of manipulating facts and spreading misinformation. Now, the family is demanding that the case be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Madhya Pradesh Police for a more transparent probe. “We want justice,” Vipul said. “If Sonam is guilty, she must face the law. But we need a fair investigation first.”
