Red Alert In Uttarakhand As Ganga Swells In Rishikesh; Yamunotri Highway Blocked

The situation in Rishikesh is being monitored closely by the administration, which is undertaking regular patrols and issuing public advisories urging people to remain in safe zones.

Amid relentless rainfall across Uttarakhand, the water level of the Ganga river in Rishikesh has risen sharply, prompting the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police to issue safety advisories and intensify patrolling across vulnerable areas.

The river is now flowing just below the warning level of 1.38 cm following overnight downpours. With more rain forecasted, authorities have placed rescue teams on high alert in Rishikesh, Muni Ki Reti, and Laxman Jhula, advising locals and pilgrims to avoid venturing near the riverbanks.

The situation is being monitored closely by the administration, which is undertaking regular patrols and issuing public advisories urging people to remain in safe zones.

Red Alert For Multiple Uttarakhand Districts

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Dehradun has issued a red alert for very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, and Tehri Garhwal districts for Tuesday. An orange alert is in effect for Pauri Garhwal, Champawat, Nainital, and Rudraprayag, while the remaining districts, including Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Almora, and Haridwar, remain under a yellow alert.

In another weather-related disruption, the Yamunotri Highway has been blocked near Silai Band and Ojari due to landslides and sections being washed away. Restoration work is currently underway on a war footing.

However, the Gangotri pilgrimage route remains unaffected, with travel to Shri Gangotri Dham proceeding smoothly, offering some relief amid the extreme weather conditions.

Authorities continue to urge residents and tourists to stay updated on weather bulletins and avoid travel in vulnerable hill areas until conditions improve.
