Rajasthan: Residential Areas Submerged After Heavy Rain Batters Ajmer; Several Students Rescued In Rajsamand

Heavy rain is expected to continue in parts of Rajasthan on Friday, with red alert issued in Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bundi, Kota, and Tonk for extremely heavy rainfall.

Several low-lying areas of Kota, Pushkar, Bharatpur, and Ajmer were submerged on Friday after heavy rain continued to lash parts of Rajasthan. 52 ghats of Pushkar Lake were flooded and residential areas around Badi River also witnessed waterlogging following heavy rainfall in Ajmer.

Earlier today, authorities declared a holiday in schools in Ajmer district in view of the incessant rainfall. A flood-like situation was witnessed in several low-lying areas in Pushkar after it was battered by incessant rainfall for several hours.

Shops and houses in the main market area in Pushkar were also flooded, while vehicles were seen floating on waterlogged streets.

Heavy rain in the region leads to flood in the Kumbhalgarh area in Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, several school children were rescued in Rajsamand after they got stuck in the middle when their school van stopped on a waterlogged road following heavy rainfall. "The locals rescued the children and another 2 people have also been rescued," Sub-Divisional Officer Govind Singh Ratanu said.

Bharatpur DM Qummer Choudhary said that the the district administration has urged people to avoid rivers, streams, and flow areas in view of continuous rainfall.

"In Bharatpur, there are several low-lying areas. Many places in the heart of the city where earlier there were natural drains or ponds have now become densely populated, creating serious drainage challenges for the administration... A continuous monitoring system is in place. We are coordinating with village panchayats to manage water drainage effectively," he said.

Red Alert In Ajmer, Kota, Tonk

Following incessant rain across Rajasthan, authorities reopened the gates of the Kota Barrage on Friday to manage rising water levels. In Sikar, intense early morning rainfall resulted in widespread waterlogging, affecting daily life in several neighborhoods.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall across parts of the state throughout the day. According to a recent IMD report, Sangod in Kota district received the highest rainfall, measuring 17 cm, followed by Pilibanga in Hanumangarh, which recorded 11 cm. Several other locations saw rainfall below the 11 cm mark.

The weather department has issued a red alert indicating extremely heavy rainfall for six districts, including Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bundi, Kota, Tonk, and Pali. An orange alert has been sounded for Baran, Chittorgarh, Jhalawar, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sawai Madhopur, Sirohi, Udaipur, and Nagaur, where very heavy rains are likely.

Additionally, a yellow alert, warning of heavy rainfall, has been issued for Banswara, Dausa, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Karauli, Sikar, Jalore, and Jodhpur.
