Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case: Police Recover Pistol, Ammo From Indore Drain, Say ‘Confirms Our Suspicion’
In the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, Meghalaya Police recovered items from a drain in Indore based on information from accused Shilom James. The recovered items, possibly including a country-made pistol, are linked to a flat where prime suspect Sonam Raghuvanshi stayed after fleeing Meghalaya.

In the murder case of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Meghalaya Police has found items in a drain in the city on the basis of the information provided by one of the accused. According to news agency PTI, the police, quoting an eyewitness, said that officials got down into the drain in the Palasia area along with real estate businessman Shilom James, who has been arrested in the case.
According to the report, the police, after a brief search, packed items in a plastic bag. News agency PTI quoting an Indore police official reported that the bag could contain a country-made pistol. This weapon was suspected to have disappeared along with other items from a flat in Indore city where Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raja Raghuvanshi's wife and the prime accused, had stayed for several days after fleeing from Meghalaya following the murder. Hindustan Times reported that two magazines, and two live .32 calibre rounds have also been recovered.
“The recovery of the firearm and ammunition confirms our suspicion about the kind of planning that went into this murder. We are piecing together every bit of evidence as we build a watertight case,” East Khasi Hills superintendent of police Vivek Syiem said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Earlier, the probe team, on the basis of the information provided by James, had recovered the burnt pieces of a bag from an empty plot on June 22. Besides James, the flat owner Lokendra Singh Tomar and security guard Balbir Ahirwar have been arrested on the charges of hiding or destroying important evidence.
According to PTI sources, three accused are currently in transit custody of the Meghalaya Police and are being questioned about these pieces of evidence. James had rented out the flat in the Dewas Naka area – where Sonam allegedly hid before travelling to Uttar Pradesh and surrendering to police on June 8 – to Vishal Chauhan, one of the accused. On June 13, James himself told the media that Chauhan had met him on May 30 and rented the flat for Rs 17,000 per month.
The sources also said that when Meghalaya police visited the flat, they found it empty.
Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and Kushwaha's friends Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi have been arrested for allegedly hatching the conspiracy to murder Raja Raghuvanshi. All of them are lodged in judicial custody in Meghalaya. Raja Raghuvanshi, who married Sonam on May 11, went missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. His mutilated body was found in a deep gorge in the Sohra area of the East Khasi Hills district on June 2.
