Delhi-NCR: Heavy Rain, Winds Bring Relief From Heat But Cause Waterlogging; IMD Issues Red Alert
Delhi-NCR experienced rain and strong winds, providing relief from summer heat. The IMD issued a red alert for Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

Rain and gusty winds swept across parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday, offering much-needed respite from the intense summer heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the capital and nearby regions, warning of thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds reaching 50–70 kmph at isolated locations.

The sudden downpour and cloudy skies turned the weather pleasant across Delhi and adjoining cities. As per ANI, visuals from Noida Sector 11 showed rain lashing the streets, while commuters in Delhi navigated through heavy showers. This change in weather brought significant relief to residents reeling under prolonged heatwave conditions across North India.

The downpour also led to waterlogging in areas of Delhi as well as Gurugram. According to news agency PTI, waterlogging was reported on Golf Course Road.

According to the IMD’s alert issued around 2 pm, areas in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan were expected to witness heavy rain, lightning, and winds within a span of two hours.

As Delhi faces inclement weather conditions, flight operations at Delhi Airport may get impacted, an advisory stated.

Hailstorm/thunderstorm with heavy rain, lightning and wind speeds of 50–70 kmph:
- Delhi: Jafarpur
- NCR: Bahadurgarh, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh
- Haryana: Kharkhoda, Mattanhail, Jhajjar, Farukhnagar
- Uttar Pradesh: Gulaoti, Sikandrabad
- Rajasthan: Laxmangarh, Rajgarh
Moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (50–70 kmph):
- Delhi: Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Kanjhawala, Dilshad Garden, Seemapuri, Mundka, Vivek Vihar, Nazafgarh, Dwarka, IGI Airport, Tughlakabad, IGNOU, Ayanagar, Deramandi

Red Alert Followed by Yellow Warning Until Thursday
The IMD has also put Delhi under a ‘yellow alert’ through Thursday, anticipating further spells of rain, lightning, and gusty winds ranging between 50–60 kmph.
As per the latest data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality in the city was in the ‘satisfactory’ category with an AQI reading of 96 at 9 am. The CPCB classifies AQI levels from 0–50 as ‘good’, 51–100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101–200 as ‘moderate’, and so on.
Meanwhile, Tuesday’s minimum temperature settled at 29°C, with the maximum expected to reach around 34°C, the IMD said.
