Heavy Rain Triggers Flooding In Gujarat; Waterbodies Overflow In Botad District

Waterbodies in rural parts of Gadhada in Gujarat’s Botad district overflowed after hours of continuous rainfall, leading to waterlogging and major disruption in daily life.

Heavy rains have flooded several areas in both urban and rural parts of Gadhada in Gujarat’s Botad district. Waterbodies in the region overflowed after hours of continuous rainfall, leading to waterlogging and major disruption in daily life. Roads are submerged, and some homes have been affected.

Bhavnagar also woke up to cloudy skies, followed by steady rainfall. Nearby rural areas in Valsad also received showers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Gir Somnath and Junagadh districts, warning of very heavy to extremely heavy rain. Authorities have been asked to stay alert and take safety steps if needed.

The state is closely watching the situation as rainfall increases across parts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra.

Rain forecast across Gujarat

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall across Gujarat over the next seven days, with heavy to very heavy showers expected on three of those days. Areas likely to be most affected include South Gujarat’s Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, as well as Amreli and Bhavnagar in the Saurashtra region.

Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Anand, Narmada, Bharuch, Dang, Tapi, as well as in the Saurashtra regions of Rajkot, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Botad, and Diu.

CM orders swift action to ensure public safety in Gujarat

On Monday, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel directed district collectors to take immediate action to safeguard public welfare. He mentioned the need for prompt evacuation from low-lying areas, protection of lives and property, and the continuous supply of essential services such as food, water, and medical aid.

CM Bhupendra Patel stated that the state's response is aligned with the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) latest weather forecast.

“In line with the Meteorological Department's forecast, necessary guidelines have been issued to evacuate people to safe places with immediate effect, and to be prepared with full vigilance and foresight in matters including rapid drainage of stagnant water, power and food supply, health and life-saving medicines. Collectors have also been urged to continue instructing citizens to be careful during heavy rains and not to cross rivers, streams, or flowing water,” he said.
