AAP's Ludhiana MLA Found Dead With Bullet Injury, Punjab Police Launch Probe

Aam Aadmi Party MLA Gurpreet Gogi died under mysterious circumstances after his body was found with bullet injuries on Friday night. He was taken to DMC Hospital, Ludhiana where doctors declared him dead upon arrival, as per officials. 

The incident happened around midnight, and he was declared dead when he was brought to the DMC Hospital," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja, reported ANI. 

Police commissioner Kuldeep Chahal and deputy commissioner Jitendra Jorwal also reached the hospital, reported The Times of India. 

His body has been placed in the mortuary for postmortem, Teja said, adding further probe into the matter is underway. 

AAP's district secretary Paramveer Singh said that the MLA had returned to his house in Ghumar Mandi after routine programmes during the day. He was with his family in his last moments. The Ludhiana West MLA is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter. 

Sukhchain Gogi, wife of the deceased MLA heard the sound of a gunshot and rushed to the spot to find her husband lying in a pool of blood, reported TOI quoting sources. Meanwhile, the DCP said he "shot himself accidentally" and sustained bullet injuries to his head. 

"Gurpreet Gogi was declared brought dead at the hospital, his body has been kept at the mortuary in DMC hospital. Post-mortem will be conducted. As per the family members, he shot himself accidentally, he sustained bullet injuries to his head. Cause of death will be clear once post-mortem report comes...," Teja said while speaking to reporters. 

The family took him to DMCH with the help of security personnel but was declared adead at the hospital. Gogi joined AAP in 2022 and defeated two-time former Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu during the Punjab assembly elections.
