Poor Visibility Disrupts Flight Operations At Chennai Airport, Airlines Issue Travel Advisory

Dense fog in Chennai reduced visibility, affecting flight operations on Monday. Airlines advised passengers to check flight status before heading to the airport.

Flight operations at the Chennai International Airport in Tamil Nadu were affected as the dense fog conditions reduced the visibility on Monday morning.

According to news agency ANI, due to dense fog, flight operations are affected at the Chennai airport.

Airlines like IndiGo and Air India issued travel advisory for passengers and asked them to check the flight status before heading to the airport.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), IndiGo airlines posted a statement and said, "Weather conditions across Chennai, Tiruchirapalli and Tirupati are expected to remain foggy over the next few days, which has caused changes to flight schedules. We advise you to check your flight status on our website or app before starting your journey to the airport."

It added, "Our team are closely monitoring the weather, and we remain committed to resuming smooth and timely operations as soon as conditions improve."

"We understand that unforseen changes can impact your plans, and we truly appreciate your understanding", the airline posted.

Posting a tweet on its official handle on X, Air India also requested the passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

"Poor visibility may impact flight operations to and from Chennai and some cities in Southern India, like Tirupati and Tiruchirapalli. Kindly check your flight status before heading to the airport," the airline said.

Earlier, some flights were also reported to be delayed at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), New Delhi, due to the fog.

Meanwhile, cold waves and dense fog have engulfed the North India. The IMD has forecast the maximum and minimum temperatures of around 19 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius respectively for January 13 for the national capital. While many trains are running late at New Delhi Railway Station due to cold wave and fog, some trains have also been cancelled.
