Opposition Blames 'Failure' Of Yogi Govt After Cow Vigilantes Attack Meat Traders
Congress MP Imran Masood visited the victims of the attack by cow vigilantes at JN Medical College in Aligarh with former MP Kunwar Danish Ali.

Aligarh Mob Assault: An assault on Muslim traders in Aligarh under suspicion of possessing beef has sparked outrage. Opposition parties have criticised the Yogi government and the police for their handling of the situation. On Monday, AAP MP Sanjay Singh visited the injured, followed by Congress MP Imran Masood, and former MP Kunwar Danish Ali, who visited the injured at JN Medical College. They held the Yogi Adityanath government responsible for the attack.
On Saturday, alleged cow vigilantes assaulted meat traders in the Alhadhapur area. Police have arrested three accused, while the injured Muslim traders are receiving treatment at Aligarh Medical College.
'Law & Order Has Collapsed'
After meeting the injured, Congress MP Imran Masood said law and order has completely collapsed in Uttar Pradesh, and ordinary citizens, especially the minority community, are not safe. Masood alleged that the meat traders were deliberately targeted and brutally beaten in the presence of police.
He questioned the government's policy of operating large-scale meat factories for revenue while simultaneously allowing smaller meat traders to be targeted through religious frenzy. He questioned the government's priorities and allegiances.
Masood also alleged that some unruly elements forcibly dragged the traders from police vehicles to beat them. He claimed that if the police hadn't been present, the attackers might have killed the traders. The incident in Alhadhapur also involved attacks on several meat shops. Eyewitnesses reported that dozens of unruly individuals launched the assault, beating the shopkeepers with sticks and rods. Several traders sustained serious injuries and were admitted to JN Medical College. One victim stated that the attackers identified themselves as cow protectors and attacked without warning.
'Conspiracy To Disrupt Communal Harmony'
MP Masood termed the incident a conspiracy to disrupt communal harmony and expressed concern over the government's silence. He stated that this was not just an attack on traders but also on the Constitution and the rule of law.
He questioned how peace and trust can be maintained if people continue to be targeted on religious grounds. He demanded immediate arrest of the culprits, adequate compensation and security for the injured traders, and stated that the Congress party will raise this issue in Parliament and the state assembly.
Congress To Launch Statewide Protest
MP Imran Masood announced that the Congress party will launch a statewide movement and awareness campaign on this issue. He asserted that they will not allow the poor and hardworking people to be beaten in this manner and demanded accountability from the government regarding its allegiances.
Former MP Danish Ali stated that while the Pahalgam and Aligarh incidents are different, the intention behind them is the same. He said, "We once showed the world how Pakistan kills innocent people in the name of religion, but now such incidents in India show that we are being forcibly pushed onto the same dangerous path." Danish Ali accused the ruling BJP of deliberately inciting religious hatred for political gain.
