'Kya Rate Legi': Journalist Harassed By Bike-Borne Men While Waiting For Cab In Noida's Sector 18

A woman claimed that she was harassed by bike-borne men in Noida while she was waiting for her cab. She also stated that this was not the first time she faced harassment in Delhi and Noida.

Noida: A journalist was allegedly harassed while waiting for a cab near DLF Mall in Noida's Sector-18. Sharing the ordeal on social media. the woman said that a  man riding a pillion on a bike waved at her before making a lewd remark, asking "kya rate legi?" Following this, both of them fled the spot. Pateria, who managed to reach home safely, revealed that this was not the first time she was harassed in Delhi and Noida in less than a month.

"Trigger warning: Harassment. I was waiting for my cab near DLF m, Sector -18, Noida. A bike crossed and the guy sitting at the back waved and asked ‘kya rate legi’. He didn’t even stop and everything happened within a flick of seconds. Thankfully, I’m back at home safely right now," the journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

After sharing the incident on social media, she received a phone call from ACP Praveen Singh, assuring her of doing everything possible to find the culprits.

"Though I believe, this issue is more of a cultural problem rather than law and order. Still  Noida Police took this case in their hands. Looking up for the action & updates," she stated in another post.

Pateria then went on to recount three other incidents in her next few posts. 

She alleged that just last Sunday she was approached by a stranger while she was on her way to sector-18 metro station in Noida.

"A guy randomly came and said hello. I was not shocked, then I eased myself thinking that maybe he's a viewer of my journalistic work. But I was wrong," she wrote.

Pateria said that the man then tried to justify his actions asking her to calm down. "Don't be shocked. Please calm down. 'Maine aapko walk karte dekha. Apa mujhe bahut acchi lagin. To maine socha rok kar baat ki jaaye. Kya pata koi chance ban jaaye' [ I saw you and I really liked you. So I thought I'd stop and talk to you. Who knows, maybe there's a chance]."

Despite being shcoked by the audicity of the man she replied politely that she wasn't interested in talking to him and immediately walked off. Shaken after the encounter, she called her friend who was waiting for her at the metro station and asked him to stay on the phone until she reached safely.

Recounting another harrowing experience, Pateria wrote that she was approached by another random guy at the Rajiv Chowk metro station in Delhi, who asked her for her number as he found her to be beautiful and "potential enough to be his +1."
