No Reason To Panic: Mamata Banerjee After Review Meeting Amid Covid Surge In Bengal
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee assured public that there's no need for COVID panic, but urged vigilance after reviewing state's preparedness for potential outbreaks.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday assured citizens that the state’s COVID-19 situation remains under control and there is no cause to panic. Her remarks came following a meeting held to assess the preparedness of the state in the face of recent developments in coronavirus cases.
"As per the official information, there is no reason to panic about the COVID situation in the state. But we have to remain alert," Banerjee said after the meeting today.
The review session included Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, top health department officials, representatives from civic bodies including the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, and members of the Panchayat Department.
"We took stock of the preparedness in the meeting. Hopefully, the pandemic will never come back. We have to be alert, not create panic," she said.
The Chief Minister then went on to advise individuals with underlying health conditions to exercise special caution.
"People with comorbidities like infection in the lungs and chest or some other issues have to be more alert. Sometimes, age is also a factor. These days, even in cases of cough and cold, we start treating them as COVID," she said.
She underscored the state's readiness, asserting that the government "was, is, and will continue to be with the people," adding that the state-run hospitals have the requisite infrastructure in place.

Banerjee concluded by stating that no new policy decisions have been made as the situation is under control. "We have not taken any decision because the situation is not at all bad. This is nothing but a type of influenza. We witness cough and cold during monsoon and winter, which is very common," she said.
As per the latest data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, West Bengal recorded 54 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the active caseload to 747. During the same period, 53 patients recovered, while no new deaths were reported.
"The toll remained at one, with no new fatalities in the last 24 hours," the ministry data said.
