Muslim Family Saves Hindu Wedding After Pune Rains Disrupt Rituals
A Muslim family offered their stage to a Hindu wedding after rain disrupted the ceremony.

A Hindu wedding was disrupted by heavy rain in Pune on Tuesday evening. In a heartwarming turn of events that showed remarkable unity, a Muslim family hosting a wedding at the same venue offered their stage to the Hindu family, ensuring the rituals could continue without delay.
Both weddings took place at Alankaran Lawns near the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) grounds in Wanawadi. This gesture highlighted the strong bond of unity and friendship between the two families, despite their different religions.
Downpour halts Hindu wedding in Pune
Sankruti Kawade and Narendra Galande were scheduled to marry at 6:56 PM in an outdoor ceremony. As the wedding rituals were about to begin, a sudden downpour disrupted the event, rendering the open-air venue unusable. Nearby, a Muslim wedding reception called the ‘Walima’ was going on in a banquet hall. The celebration was for Mohsin, the son of retired police officer Faruk Kazi, and his wife, Maheen.
Family friend and lawyer Nilesh Shinde told Pune Mirror that the Kazi family didn’t hesitate to help. They cleared space and assisted with setting up the ceremony, showing complete warmth and support. He said, “Initially, we thought the rain would stop in 15 minutes, but it just kept pouring. As guests ran in all directions for shelter, we noticed the covered hall next door and approached them, requesting permission to perform the ‘Saptapadi’ (Hindu wedding ritual) indoors.”

“They immediately spoke to their family and vacated the stage for us. Not only that, their family members and guests helped us set up for the ceremony. Both rituals were conducted back-to-back, with full respect for each other’s traditions,” Shinde added.
Kindness turns trouble into joy
The bride’s grandfather, Santaram Kawade, said the family had planned the wedding for months and was initially disheartened. But this kind gesture from strangers made the wedding even more memorable.
Chetan Kawade, the bride’s father, said the kindness shown to them is unforgettable. “Only in India could two families from different religions come together like this,” he said.
The Kazi family even invited the Kawades to join their wedding feast. They made space for their catering setup as well. Faruk Kazi, the groom’s father and a retired police officer, reflected on the moment and said he felt their pain and stepped in as any parent would. “It was like my own daughter’s wedding,” he said.
In the end, two couples from different faiths shared the same stage on their special day, a touching reminder of harmony and humanity.
