Mumbai Rains: IMD Issues Orange Alert, Waterlogging Hits Andheri Subway — WATCH
Heavy overnight rain floods Mumbai, shuts Andheri subway, and triggers an orange alert by IMD. Flights may be delayed, and high tides expected. Here’s what’s happening on ground.

A relentless downpour through the night brought Mumbai to its knees on Monday morning. It submerged several key areas and disrupted daily life. One of the worst-hit locations was Andheri, where a vital subway was completely waterlogged and subsequently shut for public safety. Commuters across the city faced delays, with waterlogged streets making movement difficult, particularly in low-lying areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an 'orange' alert for Mumbai and Raigad, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall through the day. Meanwhile, a 'yellow' alert is in place for neighbouring regions like Thane and Palghar. The IMD has urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, citing the risk of high tides—one of which peaked at 3.88 metres at 9:19 am, with another expected to rise to 3.42 metres by 8:31 pm.

Flights Disrupted, Airlines Issue Passengers Advisories
The downpour didn't just bring the roads to a crawl, it also impacted air travel. Several airlines issued advisories urging passengers to leave early for the airport and check for flight updates in advance.
“Heavy rain showers have settled in over #Mumbai... Our teams are ready to support you on the ground,” airline IndiGo posted on X, offering reassurance while asking fliers to prepare for potential delays.
SpiceJet, too, warned that both arrivals and departures at Mumbai Airport may be affected due to poor weather conditions. “Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status,” the advisory read.
Mumbai Rains Spark Concerns Over City’s Monsoon Resilience
From Andheri and Kurla to Marine Drive and CST, images and videos surfaced of people wading through knee-deep water as local trains continued to operate cautiously overhead.
The weather office has predicted the rain will continue for the next 24 to 48 hours in Mumbai and the Konkan region. While areas like Borivali and South Mumbai aren’t under direct alert, citizens in and around affected zones have been urged to stay alert and prepared.
