Delhi Cabbie Murdered Over Fare
A 26-year-old taxi driver was reportedly killed in northeast Delhi’s Sonia Vihar during a dispute over a Rs 400 fare. The Times of India reported that among the five accused, one is a juvenile, according to the police.
The incident unfolded when three passengers, after completing their cab ride, allegedly refused to pay the fare, sparking an argument with the driver. The trio then called up two of their friends. The group then fatally assaulted the cabbie. The police have arrested one suspect and taken the juvenile into custody.
The police were alerted about the incident around 1:15 AM on December 18. The injured driver, Sandeep, a Jahangirpuri resident, informed officers at the Nanaksar police checkpoint that he had picked up three passengers from Noida. Upon reaching Second Pushta in Sonia Vihar, the passengers declined to pay the fare and began an argument. During the altercation, one of the assailants stabbed Sandeep in the head and stomach. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
