Mumbai Woman Dies, Daughters Injured After 'Drunk' CISF Driver Rams Into Auto

A CISF constable, allegedly drunk, rammed a Scorpio into an auto on Mumbai’s Western Express Highway, killing a woman and injuring three.

A woman was killed, and three, including her two daughters and the auto driver, were injured after a car rammed into an auto. The incident occurred on Mumbai’s Western Express Highway in Goregaon, Maharashtra, in the early hours of Thursday. The car was driven by Central Industrial Security Force  (CISF) constable Dhundaram Yadav, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

As per IANS, the case was registered with the Vanrai Police, and all the injured are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital. The police arrested the CISF personnel.

A police official told PTI that he lost control of the SUV, hit a road divider and then smashed into a three-wheeler. The mother, Hazra Ismail Shaikh, 48, died on the spot, while the injured were rushed to the hospital.

“Yadav was charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act for culpable homicide not amounting to murder as well as other offences. He has been remanded in police custody for two days," the official told the news agency.

According to The Indian Express, the accused CISF driver was driving a Scorpio service vehicle on the southbound stretch when he lost control, and the vehicle jumped the divider, crashing into an auto-rickshaw on the Goregaon East flyover.

The Scorpio had “POLICE” written on its windshield.

As per the report, Shaikh’s husband, who was traveling in another auto-rickshaw nearby, rushed his injured wife and daughters to Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari for immediate medical attention.

“Yadav’s blood test report confirmed he was under the influence of alcohol, hence we arrested him under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder among other charges,” said Raju Mane, senior inspector of Vanrai police station told The Indian Express.

Yadav had picked up the SUV from a garage in Malad East, where it had been sent for repairs, and was en route to the CISF camp in Santacruz when the accident occurred.
